Holiday events happening over Thanksgiving weekend
We’re kicking off the start of the holiday season with a look at some of the events being held over Thanksgiving weekend.
Friday
The annual tree lighting celebration happens at 3 p.m. at Westlake Park. The Downtown Seattle Association is expecting this year to be the biggest celebration in years because of the pandemic.
The event is free and there will be local live music, light sculptures and giveaways. It ends with a fireworks show. Festivities last until 6 p.m.
Snowflake Lane in Bellevue starts Friday night. It’s parade of holiday floats that goes on every night —complete with convincing snowfall — until Christmas Eve.
Saturday
The Seattle Marathon starts at 6 a.m. at Husky Stadium in North Seattle. Expect some road closures for the 1,500 runners and even more supporters.
Magic in the Market at Pike Place Market in Seattle runs all day. There will be free Santa photos, special holiday shopping, cookie decorating, photo ops, caroling, eggnog and a lighting of the market ceremony at 5 p.m.
Christmas Ships and Bonfires at the Parks begins. It’s 17 days of Argosy Cruises sailing ships lit up with Christmas lights to shoreline bonfires hosted by Seattle Parks.
The bonfire on Saturday is at 8:35 p.m. at Alki Beach.
Sunday
Christmas Ships and Bonfires at the Parks continues. Sunday’s bonfires are at Carkeek Park at 5:35 p.m. and Golden Gardens at 8:35 p.m.
