Holiday events planned in downtown Sturgis

Early in December, downtown Sturgis will set the stage for the spirit of the season, with holiday events on the schedule.

During the next few weeks, the music of Christmas will come from the stage of the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts. The lineup includes three performances by the Sturgis Public Schools music department, a Sturgis Wind Symphony show and a Sturges-Young performance by Teddy Petty & the Refugees, a Tom Petty tribute band.

Holiday events in the neighborhood

  • Dec. 2:
    4-8 p.m. Kristkindlmrkt Christmas Market, Pleasant Ave., and food vendors.

  • Dec. 3:
    4-9 p.m. Kristkindlmrkt Christmas Market, Pleasant Ave.
    4-7 p.m. Visit Santa at Free Church Park with reindeer, lambs, hot cocoa and doughnuts, the Sturgis High School band and choir, carriage rides and The Grinch.
    5:30-9 p.m. Sip & Stroll downtown Sturgis.

  • Dec. 4:
    11 a.m.-1 p.m. Visit Santa at the Depot Museum.
    12- 4 p.m. Kristkindlmrkt Christmas Market, Pleasant Ave.
    1 p.m. "Polar Express" at Strand Theatre; $5 entry includes movie, hot cocoa, a small bag of popcorn and souvenir bell.

  • Dec: 8:
    7 p.m. Winter choir concert by Sturgis Middle and High School, Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

  • Dec. 9:
    7 p.m. Winter band concert by Sturgis Middle and High School, Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

  • Dec. 12:
    3 p.m. “We’re Back for Christmas,” Sturgis Wind Symphony; Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

  • Dec. 13:
    7 p.m. Winter orchestra concert by Sturgis Middle and High School, Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

  • Dec. 17:
    7:30 p.m. Teddy Petty & the Refugees, Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

  • Until December 23:
    Open Door Gallery is hosting a gift-wrapping fundraiser. Gifts are wrapped by local artists. It will be free for any gallery purchase. Others may be submitted for either a standard or boutique gift-wrapping. Donations go for gallery maintenance.
