Holiday hockey tournament, including Wisconsin Badgers, returning to Milwaukee and Fiserv Forum

The Badgers renew their rivalry with Minnesota Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The University of Wisconsin men's hockey team will return to Milwaukee for the second annual Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off between the winter holidays, a two-day college hockey showcase Dec. 28 and 29.

Joining the Badgers at Fiserv Forum will be Lake Superior State, Massachusetts and Clarkson, with semifinals Wednesday and the consolation/championship games Thursday.

Tickets for the event are on sale now in both single-day and two-day packages. UMass and Clarkson will play at 4 p.m. in the first of the two semifinals, followed by the Badgers and Lake Superior State.

Last year, Wisconsin won the four-team showcase with thrilling wins over Yale and Providence, the former in overtime and the latter in a shootout. Bowling Green also took part.

UW will be led by sophomore Corson Ceulemans, a first-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2021 NHL draft.

UMass won the 2021 national championship and finished last season ranked No. 10. Head coach Greg Carvel was named national coach of the year last year by both U.S. College Hockey Online and College Hockey News, and sophomore Scott Morrow was second among the nation's freshmen last year with 13 goals.

Clarkson finished last season ranked No. 17. Lake Superior State won the Western Collegiate Hockey Association title two seasons ago to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995, then finished .500 last year in its first year of the newly formed Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
