Holiday hoops: The past week's high school basketball highlights

BROOKINGS — Second-rated Class A Sioux Valley used 25 points and seven rebounds from Oliver Vincent to turn back second-rated Class B De Smet on Saturday in the Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic.

Maverick Nelson added 13 points, Patrick Carey 11 points and Alec Squires 12 rebounds for the Cossacks.

Damon Wilkinson led De Smet with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Tom Aughenbaugh added 12 points and Kasen Janssen eight points and six rebounds. The loss snapped a 24-game winning streak for the Bulldogs.

In other Classic games, it was:

Castlewood 53, Madison 48: Fifth-rated Class B Castlewood got 19 points and four steals from Lane Tvedt, 12 points from Quincy Thu, 10 points from Bryon Laue and seven assists and four steals from Booker Schooley. Charles Callahan poured in 22 points for Madison.

Iroquois-Lake Preston 54, Baltic 47: Logan Peskey's 30 points and 10 rebounds led the way for Iroquois-Lake Preston, which also got eight points and seven rebounds from Riley Casper and seven points and six rebounds from Hayden Sjurson. Mark Ditter had 15 points for Baltic.

Dell Rapids 64, Hamlin 52: Third-rated Class A Dell Rapids prevailed behind Brayden Pankonen's 26 points, Jack Henry's 18 points and seven rebounds and Camden Justice's 10 points and eight rebounds. Tyson Stevenson scored 16 points and Easten Neuendorf and Zac VanMeeteren 15 each for Hamlin. Stevenson also had five rebounds and Neuendorf four assists.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 64, Waverly-South Shore 35: Nic Gaspar produced 21 points, Maverick LeBrun 20 and Trevon Beckman 18 to pace St. Mary. Landon Maag scored eight points and Grant Holman six for Waverly-South Shore.

Others: Flandreau 66, Arlington 43; Estelline-Hendricks 72, Garretson 34; Deuel 68, Elkton-Lake Benton 51; Colman-Egan 64, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 45; and Deubrook Area 54, Chester Area 39. No details were reported from those games.

Clark-Willow Lake 79, Milbank 35: Kaplan Felberg tallied 32 points and five steals to lead Clark-Willow Lake to the Notheast Conference win. Trey Huber contributed 14 points, Brady Jordan 13 points and Jack Helkenn seven rebounds. Joe Schulte had nine points and eight rebounds and Yohana Ajwanga six points for Milbank.

Friday

St. Thomas More 56, Aberdeen Central 46: Caleb Hollenbeck's 30 points and seven rebounds carried fourth-rated Class A St. Thomas More past Class AA Aberdeen Central in the Pentagon Classic, Will Green contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Spencer Barr's 17 points and Carter Dingman's nine paced Aberdeen Central.

Clark-Willow Lake 68, Wessington Springs 35: The Cyclones won the Huron Holiday Classic game with 14 points from Trey Huber, 12 from Kaplan Felberg, eight from Emmerson Larson and seven each from Brady Johnson, Mitchell Larson and Tyson Huber. Colby Flowers scored 11 points for Wessington Springs.

Faulkton Area 69, Mitchell Christian 62: Layne Cotton's 32 points, 13 rebounds and four steals led Faulkton Area to the win in the Huron Holiday Classic. Roman DiMaria pitched in with 11 points and Spencer Melius nine. Aiden Lieber had 21 points, Braedon Nebelsick 17 and Syver Enga 11 for Mitchell Christian.

Redfield 53, Crazy Horse 44: Jerron Haider scored 20 points and Nolan Gall tallied 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists to spark Redfield to victory in the Huron Holiday Classic. Mitchell Mack added 11 points. Hayden Martin had 18 points and seven rebounds for Crazy Horse

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 53, Langford Area 44: Sanborn Central-Woonsocket won the Huron Holiday Classic game by getting 23 points from Jeff Boschee. Jesse Keough collected 16 points and eight rebounds and Kassen Keough 14 points for Langford Area.

Elkton-Lake Benton 68, Lyman 51: Ryan Krog notched 28 points, Tanner Drietz 12 and Garrett Neill 10 for the Elks in the Huron Holiday Classic game. Cooper Long finished with 17 points, Ryker Choal 15 and Damian Abrahamson 10 for Lyman.

Ipswich 67, McIntosh 20: Trevor Heinz tallied 16 points, Tyler Hettich 14 and Blake Rich 12 to carry Ipswich to victory in the Sacred Hoops Classic. Daniel Demery had 12 points for McIntosh.

Platte-Geddes 58, Sisseton 29: Tanner Dyk's 14 points and 10 rebounds led Platte-Geddes in the Pentagon Classic game. Colter Hanson and Carter Stickland each scored eight points for Sisseton. Hanson also snared six rebounds.

Lakota Tech 57, Mobridge-Pollock 50: Jordan Whirlwind Horse produced 17 points, Quincey Means 11 and Marvin Richard III 10 to spark Lakota Tech to victory in the Sacred Hoops Classic. Michael Wald had 13 points and seven rebounds, Jackson Eisemann 10 points and Shane Henderson 14 rebounds for Mobridge-Pollock.

Other Games: Herreid-Selby Area handled Stanley County 63-40 and Northwestern took it to Wilmot 79-39. No other details were reported.

Thursday

Castlewood 76, Arlington 22: Bryon Laue collected 14 points and seven rebounds and Jackson Schofield 13 and seven to lead the fifth-rated Class B Warriors to the Dakota Valley Conference win. Jamison Keszler added nine points, Booker Schooley eight and Lane Tvedt and Bowen Ryan seven each. Riley Miller scored nine points for Arlington.

Webster Area 59, Aberdeen Roncalli 53: The Bearcats sank 14 of 21 free throws and used 18 points from Jaiden McCreary and 16 from Ian Lesnar to win the Norhteast Conference game. Maddox Miller scored 25 points and Caden Shelton and Darwin Gambler eight each for Roncalli.

Waubay-Summit 56, Wilmot 23: Jackson Wohlleber (21 points and four steals), Damon Opdahl (11 points, 11 steals and six rebounds) and Jonathan Johnston (eight points and six rebounds) led the way for Waubay-Summit. Dennis Creadon finished with 10 points for Wilmot.

Timber Lake 57, North Central 54 (OT): Timber Lake prevailed with 14 points from Brady Sandvist, 11 from Tristan Dupris and 10 from Elijah Brewer. North Central got 22 points from Bastien Delalande, 11 points and 13 rebounds from Dawson Walz and nine points from Cole Bukaske.

Sioux Valley 73, Baltic 31: Alec Squires tallied 15 points, Maverick Nelson 14 and Patrick Carey 12 to lead the second-rated Class A Cossacks to the win. Hudsyn Ruesink pulled down 10 rebounds.

Faith 63, Leola-Frederick Area 52: Rylan Palmer recorded 18 points, Jess Harper 15, Jackson Schauer 14 and Caden Selby 11 for Faith. Noah Kippley and Hansa Lapka had 12 apiece for LFA.

Deubrook Area 60, Alcester-Hudson 26: The Dolphins used 27 points from Jake Jorenby to cruise to the win. Landon Johnson added eight. Jose Topple Lopez scored seven for Alcester-Hudson.

Lemmon 62, Langford Area 49: Blair Ham's 29 points lifted Lemmon to the win. Jesse and Kassen Keough each scored 16 points for Langford Area. Jesse also snared seven rebounds.

Highmore-Harrold 64, Iroquois-Lake Preston 40: Highmore-Harrold won by getting 17 points from Carson Stephenson and 12 each from Dawson Hale, Trey Knox and Bryce Bourk. Logan Peskey produced 15 points and eight rebounds, Riley Casper 10 and six and Josh McMasters nine points for ILP.

Deuel 62, Redfield 23: Gavin Benck tallied 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Deuel, which also got seven points and eight rebounds from Ronnie Begalka, 11 points from Trey Maaland and six rebounds and five assists from Owen Quail. Mitchell Mack scored nine points for Redfield.

Other Games: Deuel topped Redfield 62-23 in a Northeast Conference game, White Shield (N.D.) downed McLaughlin 65-40 in the Hunkpapa Classic and Hitchcock-Tulare handled Potter County 69-28 in the Big Bo Classic at Wolsey.

Wednesday

Aberdeen Christian 62, Lower Brule 48: The third-rated Class B Knights used 12-point efforts from Ethan Russell, Malek Wieker and Kaden Clark and another 10 points from Jackson Isakson to down fourth-rated Lower Brule in the Hoop City Classic at the Corn Palace. Lane Grey scored 17 points and Brian LaRoche Jr. 10 for Lower Brule. Tayshawn Battese added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Waubay-Summit 64, Canistota 56: Damon Opdahl scored 18 points and Jackson Wohlleber and Jonathan Johnston each 17 to lead the Mustangs to the win in the Hoop City Classic at the Corn Palace. Trevelon Neilan grabbed five rebounds. Tye Merrill tallied 18 points, Brandon Kjetland 15 points and 10 rebounds and Tage Ortman 13 points, 11 reboounds and six assists for Canistota.

Hamlin 55, Howard 45: Tyson Stevenson's 16 points and Brennan Keszler's 14 points and eight rebounds powered the Chargers to victory in the Hoop City Classic at the Corn Palace. Kolt Koepsell finished with 19 points and eight rebounds and Luke Koepsell 16 and 10 for Howard.

McLaughlin 63, Mandaree, N.D. 43: McLaughlin won the Hunkpapa Classic game. No other details were reported.

Milbank 58, Clark-Willow Lake 39: Maurina Street's 25 points and nine rebounds guided Milbank to the Northeast Conference win. Claire Snaza and Isabella Anderson each added 11. Alicia and Teyha Vig led Clark-Willow Lake with 18 and seven points, respectively.

Friday

Hamlin 39, St. Thomas More 34: Third-rated Class A Hamlin knocked off No. 1 St. Thomas More in the Pentagon Classic with 15 points and five rebounds from Kami Wadsworth, 10 points from Addison Neuendorf and nine points from Brooklyn Brandriet. Ally Abraham pulled down 10 rebounds. Reese Ross led all scorers with 17 points for St. Thomas More.

Sisseton 57, Chamberlain 28: The Redmen rolled to victory in the Pentagon Classic with 15 points, four assists and five steals from Hannah Leverson, 13 points and six blocks from Krista Langager; eight points and six rebounds from Emmalee Nielsen, eight points from Ruby Rice and 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots from Chloe Langager. Jayda Handel had 19 points and eight rebounds for Chamberlain.

Aberdeen Central 44, Worthington (Minn.) 37: The Golden Eagles won the game in the Pentagon Classic, getting 10 points and eight rebounds from Taryn Hermansen; nine points from Anna Malchow, seven steals from Taryn Hettich and eight assists from Sydney Evans.

Aberdeen Roncalli 57, Webster Area 32: Ava Hanson's 23-point, nine-rebound performance lifted Roncalli to the Northeast Conference win. McKenna O'Keefe added seven. Erin Case tallied 13 points and Payton Snell six points and six rebounds for Webster Area.

Groton Area 67, Waverly-South Shore 9: The Tigers rolled behind Gracie Traphagen's 14 points. Brooke Gengerke, Jerica Locke and Kennedy Hansen each had nine. Jolene Krantz paced Waverly-South Shore with five.

Estelline-Hendricks 52, Langford Area 29: Brooke Johnson scored 14 points, Sadie Johnson 12 and Kenzy Beare nine for Estelline-Hendricks. Alexa Darling had 12 points and Megan Gustafson 11 for Langford Area.

Deubrook Area 52, Hill City 41: Kadence Bowne's 16 points and Ellie Koenig's 10 led the Dolphins to victory. Hill City received 15 points from Lillie Ross and 12 from Maggie Taylor.

Potter County 61, Ipswich 43: In the Sacred Hoops Classic at Aberdeen, Tyler Simon powered Potter County to victory with 17 points. Kayden Cronin added 15 and Ashlee Kaup nine. Gabby Wald scored nine points for Ipswich.

Lakota Tech 70, Mobridge-Pollock 45: Jodene Hunter scored 23 points to lead Lakota Tech to victory in the Sacred Hoops Classic. Charley Henderson paced Mobridge-Pollock with 16 points.

Sioux Valley 54, Corsica-Stickney 32: The Cossacks took the game in the Pentagon Classic with 14 points from Landree Wilson and 11 each from Ashley Bjerke, Isabelle Bloker and Julia Schneider. Avery Broughton led Corsica-Stickney with six points and seven rebounds.

Other Games: Stanley County slipped past Herreid-Selby Area 48-44 and Northwestern topped Wilmot 52-28. No other details were reported.

Thursday

James Valley Christian 60, De Smet 48: JVC knocked off the fifth-rated Class B Bulldogs in the Huron Holiday Classic behind Kaylie Robinson's 26 points. Alexa Goertz contributed 15 and Lily Hofer 11. Hazel Luethmers erupted for 24 points and Jada Burke had eight for De Smet.

Deubrook Area 44, Alcester-Hudson 36: The Dolphins won the non-conference game by getting 18 points from Ellie Koenig and 11 from Skyla Petersen. Elly Doering had 13 points and Kayleigh Thompson 10 for Alcester-Hudson.

Warner 52, Burke 41: Ava Nilsson's 16-point, 20-rebound effort led the Monarchs to the win in the Huron Holiday Classic. Kendyl Anderson and Kyra Marcuson each added eight. Adisyn Indahl and Elly Witt paced Burke with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Timber Lake 59, North Central 35: Carlie Lawrence scored 18 points, Jasmine Nash 16 and Shay Kraft 11 to pace Timber Lake. Brittney Frickson notched 12 points and Ella Batie 10 for North Central. Amree Vander Vorst added nine points and seven rebounds.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 50, Elkton-Lake Benton 25: SCW rolled to the Huron Holiday Classic win with 15 points and eight rebounds from Liz Boschee and 15 points from Kamryn Ochsner. Kylie Ramlo paced ELB with 11.

Florence-Henry 50, Milbank 39: Trinity Watson poured in 24 points and Florence-Henry pulled away in the second half for the win. Taylor Watson added 10 points and Caylin Kelly and Haley Hlavacek seven each. Kelly also collected eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Maurina Street scored 16 points and Isabella Anderson seven for Milbank.

Faulkton Area 61, Lower Brule 37: Addison Melius produced 25 points and 10 rebounds and Jaymi Senn 10 and five to lead the Trojans to the win in the Huron Holiday Classic. Lael Middletent scored 10 points for Lower Brule.

Arlington 57, Castlewood 35: Four double-figure scorers (Addie Steffensen 15, Jo Steffensen 13, Jaelyn Huntimer 11 and Ellisyn Vincent 11) guided Arlington to the Dakota Valley Confence victory. Mackenzie Everson finished with 16 points and Maddie Horn 15 for Castlewood.

Waubay-Summit 38, Wilmot 29: The Mustangs won with 15 points from Eva Benike, 11 from Kailee Berger and eight from Faith Larson. Addison Heinje poured in 21 for Wilmot.

Lemmon 33, Langford Area 28: Allie Kohn's 21 points led the way for Lemmon. Megan Gustafson finished with 10 and Alexa Darling seven for Langford Area.

Iroquois-Lake Preston 50, Highmore-Harrold 40: Anna Decker's 13 points and five rebounds and Adison Moore's 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals sparked ILP. Brooke Palmer notched 15 points for Highmore-Harrold.

Other Games: Deuel beat Redfield 47-41 in a Northeast Conference game, Sioux Valley downed Baltic 63-45, Hitchcock-Tulare handled Crazy Horse 55-28 in the Big Bo Classic at Wolsey and Potter County topped White River 62-48 in the Big Bo Classic

Aberdeen Roncalli 49, Herreid-Selby Area 38: Rylee Voeller led a balanced attack with 10 points for Roncalli. Ava Hanson followed with nine and Camryn Bain and Claire Crawford each eight. HSA received 11 points from Jordyn Rossow, 10 from Jada Rossow and eight from Jennica Berens.

McLaughlin 59, Wakpala 12: McLaughlin won the Hunkpapa Classic game. No other details were reported.

Canby 45, Wabasso 34 (Minn.): Canby won the Borch's Holiday Classic game at Marshall by getting 13 points from Brynn Kockelman and nine points apiece from Kortney Leppke and Braelyn Merritt. Leppke, Paige Nelson and AshleeAnn Frazeur each hauled in seven rebounds.

Southwest Minnesota Christian 49, Lac qui Parle Valley 46 (Minn): Makenna Moss garnered 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Madyson Fey 11 points to lead SMC to the win in the Borch's Holiday Classic at Marshall. Isabel Gerdes had 15 points, Camryn Lee 13 points and six rebounds and Taylor Shelstad six steals and three assists for LqPV.

Westbrook-Walnut-Grove 50, Dawson-Boyd 33 (Minn.): Izzy Klumper's 22-point, eight-rebound effort sparked WWG to the win in the Borch's Holiday Classic at Marshall. Katie Dahl scored 13 points for Dawson-Boyd.

Tuesday

Hamlin 65, Mankato West (Minn.) 33: The third-rated Class A Chargers rolled to victory in the Borch's Holiday Classic at Marshall by getting 22 points and eight rebounds from Kami Wadsworth and 21 points and five steals from Addison Neuendorf. Brooklyn Brandriet added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists; Ally Abraham nine rebounds and Marissa Bawdon four assists. Livi Downs had 11 points and eight rebounds for Mankato West.

Lac qui Parle Valley 57, Sleepy Eye 52 (Minn.): Taylor Shelstad led Lac qui Parle Valley to the win in the Borch's Holiday Classic at Marshall by recording 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Camryn Lee contributed 16 points and eight rebounds and Rylee Lund 10 points. Kadence Hesse scored 27 points and Breaunna Mertz 16 for Sleepy Eye.

St. Clair 50, Canby 36 (Minn.): The Lancers fell to St. Clair in the Borch's Holiday Classic at Marshall. Kortney Leppke led Canby with 13 points and 14 rebounds, Braelyn Merritt 13 points and AshleeAnn Frazeur eight rebounds.
