Holiday Inn closes in downtown Baltimore

The Holiday Inn on W. Lombard Street in downtown Baltimore has closed permanently, according to signage hanging on its front door Friday.

By Friday afternoon, a sheet was covering the Holiday Inn sign in front of the building.

The hotel is located close to the Baltimore Convention Center and Oriole Park at Camden Yards, key landmarks that haven’t hosted large groups of convention-goers or baseball fans since the pandemic began.

Reports indicate the hotel was already struggling. In April 2019, the Baltimore Business Journal reported that the indebted hotel had been placed into receivership. Court filings showed the hotel was facing low occupancy rates — about 24% — and was in need of expensive repair work.
