New Holiday Inn Express headed to Ellenton; more homes in Palmetto

A new Holiday Inn Express and more residential development is headed to Manatee County following several approvals by county commissioners on Thursday.

Commissioners approved zoning changes that make development of the proposed Holiday Inn Express possible in Ellenton, and also approved plans for a new residential community in Palmetto.

Proposed by the Signature Hotel Ellenton LLC, the six-story hotel will feature 92 rooms and will be located along the Manatee River waterfront off of 18th Street, just east of the I-75 intersection with US 301 N. There is also a two-story restaurant proposed for an adjacent parcel of land.

Plans for the property were approved in 2005 but had to be renewed because they expired.

Ellenton development project hits a speed bump

County commissioners approved zoning changes on 11.1 acres of land located on the south side of U.S. 301 N., about a half-mile east of I-75 in Ellenton. The proposal calls for construction of 250 single-family homes, 80 marina slips, and 143,000 square feet of non-residential use space.

County commissioners will continue discussion on zoning changes requested by RFT Holdings, LLC on 11.1 acres of land in Ellenton at a future public hearing. The property is located on the south side of U.S. 301 N., about a half-mile east of I-75.

Developers are requesting approval of 250 single-family homes, 80 marina slips, and143,000 square feet of non-residential use space that could include retail, office, and restaurant space as well as a three-story hotel. Commissioners expressed apprehension over granting that approval because no preliminary site plan has been submitted to the county detailing plans for the development.
