While the origin of this recipe remains a bit up-in-the-air, it's always been my favorite of the Bondie Family Christmas Cookie Extravaganza. You might recognize them as no-bakes, but in our family, we call them Dream Cookies — as written on paper by my Great Aunt Marilyn.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1/2 cup milk (whole)

  • 1/2 cup butter (one stick, salted)

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 cup peanut butter

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 cups Quaker oats or 4 cups Rice Krispies

Directions:

  • Mix sugar, milk and cocoa powder in a large pot.

  • Add butter. Heat and stir until butter is fully melted.

  • Bring to a rolling boil. Leave it there for one minute.

  • Pull quickly off heat and add oats (or Rice Krispies), vanilla extract and peanut butter.

  • Stir thoroughly. Scoop cookies onto wax paper (I recommend putting towels underneath to avoid rings on your table/counter).

  • Let cool for at least an hour before you dig in.

Makes about 20 cookies, depending on scoop.
