Holiday shopping 2021 🛍️ How small businesses are doing, pop-up holiday markets and dining in NYC

The holiday season is one of the most important times of year for small businesses. While they expected a super busy season in 2021, they've also adapted to the challenges presented by the national supply chain issues.

Holiday pop-up markets are back in force throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City, offering customers alternative ways to get their holiday shopping done.

While you're working up an appetite shopping in the city, you're sure to be on the lookout for some of NYC's world class dining. But it's going to be a bit difficult to walk into a restaurant and expect to be seated in 2021. Lohud food reporter Jeanne Muchnick has the scoop on why the necessity for reservations has risen greatly as life returns to New York City following the closure of most of its attractions in 2020.

For subscribers, Tax Watch columnist David McKay Wilson takes a look at which Hudson Valley municipalities are getting ready to welcome dispensaries of recreational marijuana. "Municipalities stand to receive 3% of marijuana revenues, which means they would receive $30,000 for every $1 million in sales," writes Wilson.

Looking ahead to 2022, USA Today reporter Paul Davidson spoke with experts on the impacts the omicron COVID-19 variant could have on the economy. The emergence of the variant could cause more "labor shortages and supply chain bottlenecks."
