Holiday trash and tree disposal schedules for the Fall River and New Bedford area

During the holiday season, around 25% more waste is produced than usual. Some holiday traditions create waste, but reusing and recycling can help lessen the impact.

Here are the local holiday trash schedules and Christmas tree pickups.

Acushnet

Waste Management will be operating Monday through Friday from Dec. 26 through Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 through Jan. 6 without delay. The recycle center will be closed on Dec. 23 through Dec. 31, with the center reopening on January 6.

Christmas tree pick-up will take place the week of Jan. 9 on your regular trash day.

Dartmouth

There will be no solid waste or recycling for Dartmouth S.M.A.R.T. program participants on Monday, Dec. 26, or Monday, Jan. 2 and there will be a one-day delay for the rest of each of those weeks.

The Transfer Station will be closed Saturdays, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

Christmas tree collection for S.M.A.R.T. program participants is scheduled to be picked up on the same day as your solid waste separate truck beginning at 7 a.m. on the weeks of Jan. 9 and Jan. 23. Remove all ornaments, stands, lights, and tinsel. Do not place trees in plastic bags. This schedule is subject to change with unforeseen weather conditions.

Dartmouth residents may drop off real Christmas trees at the brush area located at the Department of Public Works/Water Pollution Control Facility, 759 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. Permit required. The brush drop-off area will be closing at 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 24 and 31 and it will also be closed on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Fairhaven

Trash pickup is on the regular schedule without delay.

Fall River

Trash pickup will be delayed one day for this week and next week, due to the holidays. The week of Dec. 27 to 31 will be a "trash amnesty" week, meaning residents can leave extra bags of trash out beside their carts (note: no bulky items). Residents are reminded that wrapping paper is not recyclable.

Christmas tree collection will take place the weeks of Jan. 3 to 7 and Jan. 9 to 13. Trees must be placed beside trash carts and must be free of all coverings and decorations, such as lights, ornaments or garland. Residents can also dispose of their trees free of charge by bringing them to the DPW yard, located at 10 Lewiston St, during normal hours of operation.

Freetown

Trash pickup is on the regular schedule without delay. The Transfer Station will be closed on Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31, and Jan. 2.

Marion

Trash pickup is on the regular schedule without delay.

Middleboro

There will be no trash or recycling pickup on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Pickup will be on a holiday schedule during the weeks of Dec. 27 and Jan. 3.

During the weeks of Dec. 19 and Dec. 27, both the A and B recycling routes will be picked up each week.

Christmas tree pickup will be Jan. 3 through 6 and Jan. 9 through 13.

The landfill/transfer station will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 31.

New Bedford

Harvey Waste & Recycling Services will pick up real Christmas trees from Jan. 9 through Jan. 13. During this week only, residents may place trees at the curb by 7 a.m. the weekday after trash and recycling collection. If your trash is usually collected on Friday, Christmas trees will only be collected along your route on Monday, January 9th. Property owners may be issued a violation notice if trees are placed at the curb at any other time or without decorations removed.

Christmas trees can be brought to the following locations starting on Dec. 26: E Rodney French Blvd., beach parking lot, between Hudson Street and Seymour Street until Jan. 13; Brooklawn Park, near Pony League Field, enter at Irvington Street until Jan. 13; Recycling Center, 1103 Shawmut Avenue, open noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday;.7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Saturday. Holiday hours are 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 23 and 30; 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and 31; closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Rochester

Trash pickup is on the regular schedule without delay. Christmas tree pickup will be on Monday, Jan. 23.

Somerset

"Trash amnesty" week is Dec. 26 through 30, meaning residents can leave as much trash out as they need to, as long as they use at least one town trash bag. The Highway Department posted a reminder that there is no delay to the trash schedule due to the Christmas holiday, so trash day during trash amnesty week is the same day it normally is for you.

Tiverton

Tiverton residents are allowed to place (2) non-PAYT 30 gallon or less (regular) trash bags perhousehold at curbside on their collection day from Tuesday, Dec. 27, to Saturday,Dece. 31, courtesy of the Town Council.

Christmas trees (natural only) will be collected at curbside on your trash day, weather permitting,from Tuesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 13 (no tree pickup will occur onSaturday, Jan. 7). Please place trees at curbside and remove lights, ornaments and tree stands.

Wareham

Trash pickup is on the regular schedule without delay. The Transfer Station will close be closed on Dec. 24; and will close at noon on Dec. 31.

Westport

The Transfer Station will close at noon on Dec. 24 and 31; it will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
