Holiday weekend heat expected to continue into the week

High holiday weekend temperatures are predicted to continue into the week, with scorching heat indexes expected in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake.

Higher-than-normal temperatures are expected to continue into Monday afternoon, with the chance of severe thunderstorms coming Monday night into early Tuesday morning. The heat index is predicted to be as high as 100 degrees Tuesday throughout metro Detroit and Ann Arbor.

Wind gusts to 60 mph, hail and flooding are possible, NWS said.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends utilizing air conditioning, if possible, drinking lots of water and limiting outdoor activity to prevent heat-related injuries.
