Holland Christian, Zeeland West win tennis rivalry showdowns (High School Rewind)

Two tennis rivalries highlighted Monday's high school sports action with Zeeland West defeating Zeeland East and Holland Christian defeating Hamilton.

GIRLS TENNIS

Zeeland West 6, Zeeland East 2

The Zeeland West girls tennis team defeated rival Zeeland East 6-2 on Monday.

The Dux swept the singles matches with Paola Martinez defeating Brooke Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Jadyn Keatley defeating Lily Sanchez 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, Molly Cook topping Kendyll Samora 6-3, 6-1 at NO. 3 and Annie Panozzo defeating ThyAn Kleikamp 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

In doubles, Zeeland West's Hannah You-Alaina Erdman defeated Braelynn Huizenga-Elise Jackson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Zeeland West's Tessa Rindfliesch-Anna DeVries defeated Morgan Achterhof-Keeley Boerman 6-7(8), 6-4, 7-6(5) at No. 2.

Zeeland East won the last two doubles matches as Megan DeVisser-Lucy McRae defeated Ella Wells-Zoe Doss 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Carly Lukins-Grace Norman defeated Lily Mendoza-Brooklyn Quillan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Holland Christian 7, Hamilton 1

The Maroons won the OK Blue match to remain in first place.

In singles, Holland Christian's Hope Rhoades defeated Sommer Lappinga 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Bria Lampen defeated Isabelle Troost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Eva VanKlompenberg defeated Natalie Grunst 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

Hamilton's Alyssa Franck defeated Jenna Grotenhuis 7-6(8) 6-2 at No. 4.

The Maroons swept the doubles flights with Ainsley VandenBrink-Lilly DeVries topping Cassidy Lezman-Leah Blood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Kayla VandenBerg-Monika Diaz beat Sydney Wedeven-Raquelle Burdick 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Larissa Bol-Esmay Klingenberg defeated Haylie Peterman-Joelle Boeskool 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Nicole Genzink-Abi Kraal topped Drew VanHouten-Maya Wettlaufer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.

Mona Shores 5, Holland 3

The Dutch lost the OK Green match. Libby LeFebre won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Lizzi Munster won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Melania Rocha won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

BOYS TRACK

West Ottawa 113, Grandville 23

Isaac Easter won the 110-meter hurdles (16.70), the 300 hurdles (41.82) and the long jump (20-8 3/4) to lead the Panthers.

Tyler Postma won the 100 meters (11.79) and the 400 (52.34). Benjamin Riley won the 800 (2:00.44). Aro Tikkanen won the 1,600 (4:48.84). Connor Wooley won the 3,200 (10:34.61). Lucas Lesher won the discus (150-2) and the pole vault (12-0). Dylan Ploeg won the high jump (5-10).

GIRLS TRACK

West Ottawa 97, Grandville 40

Natalie Blake won the 100 meters (13.50) and the pole vault (12-6). Megan Postma won the 200 (27.54) and 400 (59.54). Sophie Bonnema won the 800 (2:22.32). Lauren Catton won the 1,600 (5:57.39). Jane Olney won the 3,200 (11:44.59). Allinna Teav won the long jump (14-9 3/4).

GIRLS SOCCER

Fennville 1, Black River 1

Fennville tied Black River 1-1, with a goal from Angelica Mendoza assisted by Ellie Merson.

Lily LaBurn scored a first half goal on an assist from Harper Gerow to give the Rats a 1-0 halftime lead. Olivia Hayes was excellent in goal again making 15 saves.

Saugatuck 0, Parchment 0

Saugatuck controlled play but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw with Parchment. Kennedy Gustafson stopped 2 shots to preserve the shutout. Saugatuck moves to 6-2-3 on the season and is now 2-1-3 in the SAC.
