HOLLAND — The Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored military veterans with additions to Pilgrim Home Cemetery this Memorial Day.

Following the Memorial Day Parade in Holland on Monday, May 29, the chapter installed two plaques and a Liberty Tree in the veterans section of the cemetery. One plaque honors military veterans for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Never Forget Garden.

The plaque was first placed in a container garden at the Zeeland Historical Museum in June 2021, but when the garden was dismantled later that year, the organization began searching for a new permanent home.

The second plaque, brass, says: "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Never Forget Garden and Liberty Tree placed and donated by Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton Chapter NSDAR America 250! May 2023." America 250! is a multi-year effort to commemorate the semi-quincentennial of the United States.

The Liberty Tree, meanwhile, serves as a "living memorial," the organization wrote in a statement. "A vibrant and life-affirming symbol of the person's memory, as well as a serene place to pay respects for generations to come."
