NextEra Energy attorney James Dawson has jumped to Holland & Knight, where he will be a partner based out of the firm's West Palm Beach office.

Dawson will work in the firm's 75-attorney South Florida litigation practice. At NextEra, he handled federal tax litigation for the company and its subsidiaries, which include Florida Power and Light. He also led the company's response to IRS audits.

“Jim is a nationally-respected litigator who handles sophisticated tax disputes and understands the complexities of corporate tax credits,” Adolfo Jimenez, head of Holland & Knight’s South Florida litigation practice, said in a statement. “He is well-versed in all tax litigation disputes. Our energy, finance and technology clients will be very interested in his unique skill set. Any company that makes heavy research investments and takes advantage of federal tax credits can benefit from his advice and counsel.”

In his new role, Dawson will continue to provide counsel on IRS issues to corporations and individuals during audits.

NextEra Energy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
