Holland Patent man dies in motorcycle crash in Trenton

A Holland Patent man has died after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Trenton Road in Trenton on Saturday night, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Deputies said they responded to the scene at the intersection of Trenton Road and John Street at about 7 p.m. that evening.

Dakota Safin, 29, the operator of a 2002 Honda motorcycle, had sustained serious injuries in the crash, deputies said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation indicates speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Safin was traveling south on Trenton Road when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a 2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was making a left turn from the northbound lane.

The driver of the truck, Mary Fanelli, 57, of Barneveld, was not injured. The two passengers in the vehicle, John Fanelli, 58, and a 6-year-old whose name was not released, were also not injured.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit and the investigation is ongoing. No tickets have been issued. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Holland Patent Fire Department, Barneveld Fire Department and Kunkel Ambulance.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 315-765-2737.
