Holland Township fire station will see significant renovations in 2024
HOLLAND TWP. — A fire station in Holland Township will get a major facelift in 2024, following approval from the Board of Trustees last week.
The fire station at 131 Riley St. was built in 1994 and covers the western and northern portions of Holland Township.
According to a memorandum from Township Manager Steve Bulthuis, it's seen little in updates and renovations since the 90s.
“It's now time to undertake improvements to protect the structure as well as improve its functionality and aesthetics,” Bulthuis wrote.
After receiving estimates from Lakewood Construction, trustees agreed to interior and exterior improvements with estimates around $280,576. The recommendation was to approve a contingency for a not-to-exceed total of $300,000.
Interior improvements include new ceiling tiles, light fixtures, flooring, cabinets and countertops, plus wall, ceiling and door painting — with additional work on Room 109; demolition of three trench drains with cement installation; sanding, prepping and repainting of light poles; and additional light work in two rooms.

Exterior improvements include replacing portions of the insulation finishing system and repainting light poles.
Bulthuis said a definitive construction schedule is still being determined, but work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
It's not the only construction project set for the coming months in Holland Township, which also has plans to renovate the township offices to enhance security and improve functionality. That project was expected to begin in November, but supply chain issues delayed progress.
