Holland wrestling finishes close 2nd at OK Green meet; Chix 3rd, Dux 5th

ZEELAND - The Holland High School wrestling team put together a strong OK Green Conference Tournament with sights set on a conference title.

The Dutch performed well but came up just short, finishing runner-up with 196.53 points.

Muskegon Reeths-Puffer won the league title with 208.02. Zeeland East was third (119.54), followed by Mona Shores (93.05), Zeeland West (82.06), Muskegon (76.07), Grand Rapids Union (43.08) and Wyoming (19).

Holland trailed by just 0.5 going into the final round, but just did not have enough firepower to pull out the win.

The Dutch had four conference champions as Aiden Segovia won at 106 pounds, Israel Castro won at 138, Luis Barajas won at 144 and Romeo Keels won at 215.

Segovia pinned Mona Shores' Mario Curiel in 5:21.

Barajas pinned Mona Shores' Erik Davidson in 1:44.

Castro defeated Zeeland East's Ben DeLost with an 8-0 decision.

Keels won an 8-6 decision over Zeeland East's Atari Kuras.

Finishing runner-up for the Dutch were: Joel Morin (132), Andreas Valkema (157), Dylan Flores (190), Josh Keller (129) and Julian Segovia (126).

Zeeland East finished third and had one conference champion. Gavin Drenton won the title at 126, beating Julian Segovia on a technical fall.

Confernece runner-ups for East were DeLost at 138 and Kuras at 215.

The Dux finished fifth. Brody Smeyers won at 190, defeating Flores on a 10-6 decision.

Zeeland West's Troy Postema was second at 165. Samuel Taylor was second at 115.
