GRAND RAPIDS - Abby Schultz rose to become one of the best basketball players in Holland Calvary history.

She made her mark in college as well.

Schultz was selected for the Grace Christian University Hall of Fame in February, one of two members of the Class of 2023.

"I am incredibly humbled and honored to be inducted into Grace Christian University’s Hall of Fame this Fall. I had the opportunity to play with some incredible teammates and for some coaches who left a lasting legacy on my life," Schultz said.

Schultz was one of the most versatile athletes Grace has seen, standing out on both the volleyball and basketball teams throughout her time at Grace. She capped off her career in 2016 by receiving the NCCAA Game Plan 4 Life Award, which is the top honor given by the NCCAA for women's basketball. She is the only Tiger ever to receive this honor. She was also a 1st-Team NCCAA All-American in 2016 and led the Tigers to the NCCAA Final Four. For the volleyball team, her accolades include 1st-Team All-Region, Leadership Award, and Team MVP in 2015.

"My playing career gave me the launch pad into my career in college athletics and I’m forever grateful for those opportunities. Because of my playing career, I developed a passion for college athletics and now have the opportunity to organize and manage NAIA National Championships," she said.

Schultz has had a successful career in athletics since graduation, coaching at the NAIA level at Hannibal-LaGrange, Dordt, and Indiana Wesleyan University. This past year she transitioned into a role as a Championship Sport Manager at the NAIA National Office in Kansas City, MO.

All of this stemming from taking a chance at Grace.

"Coming out of a small high school, I wasn’t really sure what to expect at the next level," Schultz said. "I ended up thriving and elevated my game far above what I thought I was capable of early on. I finished my playing career at the peak and felt like I was living every little girl’s dream; the kind of career that you dream of having as a child. My career was a special one, and I don’t take that for granted. I’m incredibly humbled to be recognized and inducted this fall."
