Holliston Public Schools has hired this Medway adminstrator to lead Holliston High

HOLLISTON — Holliston High School has a new principal, but he's no stranger to the region.

Superintendent of Schools Susan Kustka announced via email last week that David List, currently Medway High School's assistant principal, will become Holliston High's next principal.

He starts July 1.

List has big shoes to fill, as incumbent Principal Nicole Bottomley was recently chosen for the Bertram H. Holland Award for High School Principal of the Year by the Massachusetts School Administrators' Association. Bottomley, who was Holliston High's principal for 10 years, has taken a job at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham.

"I'm really excited to take on a new challenge," List said in an interview, "School is one big family. It's got to be a place with collaboration and a place of trust and care for staff, students and families."

According to Kustka's email, there were 14 applicants. List was chosen from among three finalists who had site visits with the school community.

Directed METCO program in Natick

List has been assistant principal at Medway High since 2015. He previously directed Natick's Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) program, which integrates students from Boston into suburban, predominantly white school districts.

List has lived in the MetroWest region for 18 years; his wife is from Framingham.

"I have enjoyed my time here," he said of Medway High. "The amount of well wishes has been overwhelming."

Kustka, in her email, shared part of List's cover letter: "Throughout my career, no matter my role, I have been driven by a set of core values. My values of respect, equity, inclusivity, responsibility and collaboration, along with the school's mission and vision, serve as a guiding principle for my decision-making and can be seen in the programs and practices I have implemented and initiated. These values are integral to the work I do and shape the way I approach my responsibilities as an educator and administrator."

List holds a bachelor's degree in Jewish history from the University of Hartford and a master of education degree from Hebrew College in Newton. He also completed an administrator licensure program from the TEC Leadership Program at Boston University.
