Holly Jolly Hingham to warm up the town with weekly festivities through Christmas

HINGHAM – Holiday festivities will kick off for the season in downtown Hingham two days after Thanksgiving with horse-drawn hayrides, a mailbox with a direct route to the North Pole and shopping at weekly Holly Jolly Hingham celebrations.

The Hingham Downtown Association has planned a month holiday cheer for everyone to enjoy, with special events each Saturday leading to Christmas. Hayrides will start on Saturday, Nov. 26 beginning at the Hingham Rotary Clock Tower outside of the La Petite Maison boutique and continue each week. Letters to Santa can be dropped off at the designated mailbox also at the Hingham Rotary Clock Tower. There will also be photo sessions with Holly Jolly character cut-outs.

Participating shops will be open on Thursdays until 7 p.m. and on Sundays for extended holiday hours.

Downtown Hingham's annual Christmas in the Square celebration will take place Friday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. The holiday tradition has been enjoyed by thousands of residents and neighbors across the South Shore for more than 40 years. Santa will arrive atop a fire truck under bright white lights and surrounded by festively decorated shops.

Local musicians and student groups will perform live music and giant-sized peppermint sticks and other holiday novelty gifts will be available for purchase. The movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be projected on the train vent courtyard along with a magical snow show sponsored by the Saint Paul School. To cap off Christmas in the Square, an ice sculptor will create a waving Santa from a giant block of ice.
