Developers are planning to bring a new subdivision to Morris Landing Road in Holly Ridge.

The town's Planning Board recently approved a sketch plan for The Residences of Morris Landing, a project with 70 units on about 30 acres of land. Charles F. Riggs and Associates, Inc. and Onslow RLD, LLC. submitted documents, which were later approved Tuesday.

The development is proposed to be built in four phases in an area about two miles away from U.S. 17. When completed, it will consist of 62 duplex structures and eight single-family homes.

Nathan Rhue, Holly Ridge community development director, said a construction timeline was not submitted. With approval from the planning board, the developers can now start engineering studies for infrastructure and present preliminary plans for phases.

"We are doing our best to welcome them as much as we can," Rhue said. "We are a growing little community and we're always inviting and welcoming the ones who have a planned way of growth. We're excited, that's for sure."

According to Holly Ridge officials, final zoning approval and Certificate of Occupancy, for people to move in, can be issued once a site and building are inspected and determined to be constructed in compliance with approved plans.
