Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has revealed that Ste Hay's dramatic initiation scenes were originally "a lot darker".

Broadcast in Wednesday's (June 12) episode, Ste showed his loyalty to the far-right extremist group and was rewarded with the opportunity to get their logo tattooed on his arm.

Can't say we're too envious of that one.

Speaking to Radio Times about this recent on-screen development, actor Kieron explained that the audience were very nearly subjected to different imagery.

"It should be uncomfortable to watch because we're opening the audience's eyes about a shocking subject, one that is really happening," he said. "We actually filmed a lot darker material than what went out on screen for when we saw Ste being initiated into the group."

Kieron then discussed how the pre-watershed timing of the show's broadcast affected the footage.

"In that process in real life, more things happen that we shot that didn't make the episode. We shoot stuff to make it as real as possible but because of the time slot some things don't end up on screen.

"The scene was sinister enough."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
