Liam Donovan has made Mercedes McQueen an offer she should definitely refuse in Hollyoaks over the hit-and-run car crash.

Last week left off with Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) discovering that Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) was the one who actually hit Grace Black (Tamara Wall) earlier this year, having played Mercy's audio confession on Harry's phone after he found it in The Dog's car park.

Fans will know that Liam (Jude Monk McGowan) was also in the car at the time of the crash, but he initially had other important issues to think about in Monday's (October 14) first-look episode.

After Jesse (Luke Jerdy) revealed that Iona's adoption papers were ready to sign, Liam confided in Grace that he was worried he'd never be the best dad possible for her.

"I'm terrified of failing her, messing her up in the same way my parents messed me up," he admitted, with Grace urging him: "Then be better. Don't sign away your daughter!"

At the same time, Joel confronted a stunned Mercedes with the truth about the hit-and-run. He offered her the chance to tell her family what she'd done before he went to the police.

"All I know is I have 100% proof you ran over Grace. The rest is for the police to decide," Joel pointed out.

Mercedes went into a panic, getting in touch with Liam to demand that he stop Joel before the priest turns her in.

"He knows about the hit-and-run and thinks that we killed Harry to cover it up," she explained to a shellshocked Liam.

Liam used this to his advantage by agreeing to help Mercy on one condition: she would have to leave her family forever and run away with him!

"I love you, and I want you to be mine, Not Sylver's," he demanded. "Tomorrow we're leaving, and we're never coming back!"

To tie up loose ends, Liam also officially signed over his parental rights for Iona to Jesse once and for all.

This week's episodes will see Liam try to get the jump on Joel by offering him a bribe to keep his mouth shut, but can the priest can be bought?

The Who Shot Mercedes storyline is also looming, and Jude Monk McGowan has confirmed that Liam will be one of the main suspects. Thus, all must not go to plan this week!

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
