Hollyoaks revisits Misbah's story as Ali's trial outcome confirmed

Hollyoaks is set to reveal the outcome of Ali Shahzad's trial as the soap revisits Misbah Maalik's historic rape storyline next week.
Earlier this year, Misbah confided in her family when she revealed that Ali raped her when they were at university together 30 years ago. Later, with her family's support, Misbah was able to report him to the police for his actions too.
Ali has been in jail awaiting trial for rape ever since, but that hasn't stopped him from playing mind games with his son Shaq or with the Maalik family.

Next week's scenes will see Ali finally stand trial, and Misbah does all that she can to prepare as she's determined to tell her truth but will she be deterred when Verity warns her about Ali's troublesome lawyer?
Later, Misbah's new partner Zain succumbs to his worries and makes a rash decision.
Before long, the day of Ali's trial arrives and opening statements are read, but Verity later delivers some shocking news to Misbah...

When Ali lands a spot on the front page of the newspaper, Yazz is determined to take matters into her own hands.
Misbah, meanwhile, stands her ground and refuses to hide, and Ali finally experiences first-hand how his actions have consequences.
Ali's trial will play a big role in Hollyoaks' upcoming summer storylines over the next few months as Misbah feels ready to tell everyone what he did to her.
Speaking about taking on the storyline earlier this year, Misbah actress Harvey Virdi reflected on how important it is to explore the topics of historical abuse and rape within soap.
"With this particular storyline, the more I looked into it, the more I realised how important this issue of historical abuse and rape is," she shared.
"We're talking about things that happened 30 years ago, when people's thoughts were different. Things that are not acceptable were allowed to happen, which led to people not dealing with it.
"Being raped is bad enough, but it's even worse if you're not believed, you fear you won't be believed or you're being threatened to keep quiet. That's the bit that stops you healing mentally for many years.
"Our storyline talks about that. I realised how important that issue was and how many people have actually been through that."
Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
