Hollyoaks star Diane Langton has revealed her take on the one loose end from her character in EastEnders.

For context, legendary soap star Diane played Cindy Beale's mum, Bev Williams, for a short stint in the soap in the late 90s.

As die-hard fans will know, Cindy's 'death' in 1998 was later revealed to be a fakeout – and speaking to Inside Soap magazine, Diane has revealed whether she thinks Bev was involved in the deception.

"Cindy was supposed to have died in prison giving birth," explained Diane.

"And Bev said she was there when it happened! As Cindy went into police protection, did Bev know she was still alive and kept her mouth shut?"

Diane went on to ask: "Was Bev lying all along?" before adding an ominous: "We never saw it play out on screen...".

In true soap fashion, viewers never did see the 'death' of Cindy, as it all played out off screen, meaning Diane's theories could well be true, and Bev may have had a helping hand in Cindy's deceit.

Cindy recently returned to EastEnders after nearly two decades away in an explosive plotline in 2023.

It was revealed that she went into witness protection after the birth of her daughter, Cindy Williams, and started a secret family with future Vic barman George Knight under the name 'Rose'.

She returned to Walford after learning that son Peter Beale has come back to the Square, leaving Ian Beale panicked – along with the rest of the Square.

Diane, meanwhile, now plays the legendary Nana McQueen on Hollyoaks.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
