During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, the former EastEnders actor detailed how Felix grew up in a children's home, which has had a huge impact on how he navigates and relates to the world as an adult.
"He's a dark character," he told hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway. "You'll find through the story there's things that have happened that conditioned him to be the way that he is. He's a bit desensitised from emotion in that sense. When he interacts with people, you can see that."
Blackwood, 47, also touched on how "beautiful" it is to explore how someone might become "bad" due to certain traumatic experiences in their life.
"You've got to play the truth of why they became that way," he explained. "What Hollyoaks has done, which I think is beautiful, is they've gone into the history of why he has become that way."
He concluded by confirming that Felix – who is existing character Mitchell Deveraux's father – will show up in the village in March and have a mysterious connection to Jamie Lomas' Warren Fox.
"I had something to do with his conditioning, so it's nice how it goes full circle," he said. "Hollyoaks have gone in! I'm really happy."
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
