Ste Hay's latest attempt to escape the far-right group in Hollyoaks has ended with him being viciously beaten.

Ste (Kieron Richardson) has finally realised he was groomed by the group following the bombing earlier this week, but he has been threatened to stay with them or risk his family being harmed.

Thursday's first-look episode (September 19) picked up with the group trying to wash "TERRORISTS" graffiti off The Teahouse. When Ste was reluctant to join the others on an outing, Jonny (Ray Quinn) questioned if he was secretly making plans behind their back.

"Give the lad his space," Stuart assured Jonny. "He's not stupid enough to try to jump ship again. Otherwise, he knows what'll happen!"

Ste was indeed misleading Stuart and Jonny, going instead to meet up with Jed — the former group member he'd been pressured into attacking when Jed threatened to report them to police.

In their secret meeting, Ste argued he never wanted to hurt anyone, but Jed reinforced that he had to accept some responsibility.

"You always have a choice," Jed explained. "I'm not trying to have a go, but you're not innocent in this."

Ste then broke down into tears as he slumped to the ground, practically begging for Jed's help in getting him away from the group.

"I can help you, but you need to put your trust in me," Jed offered, with a tearful Ste agreeing: "Whatever it takes. I have to get out."

Jed then introduced Ste to officers from Prevent, who would be able to protect him and offer him financial support once he got out. However, they needed time to work out the logistics, so Ste would need to carry on as normal "in the short-term".

"Is this a joke? I thought you were meant to be helping me," Ste protested. "I've got to get out today!"

Jed interjected by offering to help Ste leave immediately if that's what he wanted, with a grateful Ste telling him: "Thank you for saving my life!"

However, a call from Jed was ultimately Ste's undoing when it was intercepted by Stuart and Jonny as he arrived back home to fetch his things. The two then shoved him inside.

"You were warned," Stuart seethed.

Stuart and Jonny brutally attacked Ste, then forced him to call Jed back to tell him he wouldn't be leaving because "the group means everything" to him.

"Get yourself comfy because you're not going anywhere," Stuart then warned in the night's cliffhanger.
