Holmes County commissioners maintain board seats as they eye 2023 projects

MILLERSBURG − Faced with big plans to move forward with projects already in place, the Holmes County Board of Commissioners on Monday voted to keep the board the same as last year with Joe Miller serving as chairman and Ray Eyler as vice-chair.

Joe Miller was re-appointed as chairman of the Holmes County Board of Commissioners.

"I think with some of the larger projects we have going on, we need continuity, and with Joe being in place, I think that would best serve the county," Commissioner Dave Hall said. "I think Ray adds seasoned history, and that keeps documentation consistent as we move forward.

"Plus, with my role being on the County Commissioners Association board, that allows me the flexibility to go back and forth once a week to talk about legislation that impacts this county," Hall continued.

Hall added that as long as Miller and Eyler are willing to continue to serve in their roles, there is no reason to disrupt things.

One of the major projects facing the county this year is the planned construction of the new building for the Holmes County General Health District on Glen Drive.

"We've got some work ahead of us," Eyler said. "We've got the project Joe's been working on, the new health building, which is finally coming to an end, we hope. I don't know if there's going to be more changes to the plans, but we'll get moving on it. We do have the money set aside for that project."

Eyler said the county is in good financial shape.

"We hope we're going to stay that we," he said. "Hopefully the departments continue to stay frugal with their spending. We do appreciate all the departments for curbing any spending."

Hall added that the board has done a good job of reporting back and communicating with each other the progress being made on the various boards on which members serve.

I appreciate the relationships we have with the teams we have around us," Hall said. "I'm looking forward to the new fiscal and administrative calendar year."

The board also approved the schedule of Monday morning business meetings at 10 a.m., with deadline for business documents for the meeting being 9 a.m. the Thursday before the meeting.

Commissioners approved the increase of mileage reimbursement from 58 cents to 65.5 cents per mile to stay in line with the federal mileage reimbursement standards.
