The company opened its doors in 1968 as Owens-Illinois Prescription Products making glass containers. They switched to plastic in 1972, featuring child resistant packaging.

Today, the company manufactures more than 4 billion parts annually, including vials and closures, applicators, ointment jars, droppers and oval bottles.

There are three shifts running 24 hours daily, five days a week, producing 6 million pill bottles a day with 245 employees.

The company was sold to Gerresheimer Glass in 2015, and was rebranded as Centor, a Gerresheimer Company. They have continued to steadily grow since then.

Plant Manager Mitch Stein credits the people of Holmes County and their values for making the company so successful.

"You could take this facility and move it 40 miles, and it wouldn't do what we've done," said Stein. "We've been here since 1968, driven as a nonunion, great work ethic and culture. There is a lot of integrity, and I think we're very blessed in this faith-based community."

Stein has been with Centor for 34 years, taking over as plant manager in 2007. He said close to 62% of all prescription products in North America are done out of the Berlin Township facility.

They provide their products to Rite Aid, Walgreens and Walmart pharmacies.

"It's a privilege to be plant director here. I'm just one key in the cog of this thing," he added. "We're very successful because of the people. I'm fortunate and very blessed to be leading that."

Holmes County Commissioners Joe Miller and Dave Hall commended Centor on its 55th anniversary.

"Ever since they opened here as Owens-Illinois, they have always been a class operation," Miller said. "I think there are still people working there from day one. It is clean enough you can eat off the floor when you go there. They practice safety and they put out a good product, and they are a wonderful asset to our community."
