Holmes issues and candidates filed for Nov. 7 election

MILLERSBURG — There will be one new levy with nine renewals and one replacement levy for Holmes County voters on the Nov. 7 ballot, along with several contested races locally.

The lone new levy will be a 5-year, 3.5-mills additional road levy in Clark Township.

Renewals in Berlin (2-mill, 5-year road levy), Killbuck (1.3-mill and 2-mill, 5-year fire & EMS levy), Paint (1-mill, 5-year road levy), and Walnut Creek Townships (1.5 mill, 5-year levy) will also be on the ballot.

A 1.5-mill, 5-year replacement road levy will be voted on in Saltcreek Township.

A six-mill, 10-year renewal for emergency requirements in the Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village and a 2.8-mill, 3-year emergency requirements for the Triway Local School District will also be voted on.

Village issues include a 5-mill, 5-year renewal for current expenses in Killbuck, and a 5-mill, 5-year renewal for current expenses in Millersburg will appear on the ballot.

Millersburg East and West precinct voters will also be voting on Sunday wine and mixed beverage sales at Bell Stores, while Millersburg West Precinct voters will determine whether or not to allow Sunday spirituous liquor, wine and mixed beverage sales on premise at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 143 W. Jackson.

Candidate races

No one filed for the Village of Baltic mayor, village council or board of public affairs positions that are available. Lisa Welch, director of elections for the Holmes County Board of Elections explained in some villages and districts that are in more than one county, like Baltic, candidates may have filed in Tuscarawas or Coshocton County.

For village council or mayoral races, if no candidate filed, the village council can appoint a member to the vacant seats, she said.

Robert Dustin Lint was the lone candidate to file for Glenmont village council, while no one filed for mayor or board of public affairs.

Brent Carpenter filed for the Holmesville mayor and Dan Carpenter and Sharon Mackey filed for two village council seats. Andrew Mumaw filed for the village board of public affairs.

Ricky Allison (incumbent) and Kristina Flener have filed for the Killbuck mayoral race, while Richard Patterson and Theodore Thorpe filed for two council seats. No one registered for the board of public affairs member.

No candidate filed for the Loudonville mayor or two village council seats that are up for election.

Jeff Huebner (incumbent) and Kelly Hoffee have filed to run for Millersburg mayor. Ryan Hershberger, Andrea Kellogg and Thomas Vaughn have filed to run for two village council seats.

Daniel Hiller (incumbent) has filed to run for Nashville mayor. Marlin Miller has filed for one of two available seats on village council.

Township races

Bennie Miller has filed for trustee and Janet Stutzman for fiscal officer for Berlin Township.

Bryan Olinger has filed for trustee and Beth Hershberger for fiscal officer for Clark Township.

Kevin Duff has filed for trustee and Marty Mathie Grice  for fiscal officer in Hardy Township.

J. Benjamin Butler, Travis Chaney, Chad Cline and Andrew Whitney have all filed for one trustee seat and Jennifer Thorpe has filed for fiscal officer in Killbuck Township.

Chris Drake, Gary Morris and Lyle Seiter have filed for one trustee seat and Kathleen Skolmutch has filed for fiscal officer in Knox Township.

Mark Milan Maxwell has filed for trustee and Michele Gerber for fiscal officer in Mechanic Township.

Matthew Schneider has filed for trustee and Jean Hostetler for financial officer for Paint Township.

Stacey Shaw has filed for trustee and Carol Snyder for financial officer in Prairie Township.

Rex Marmet has filed for trustee and Penny Patterson for financial officer in Richland Township.

Kevin Miller has filed for trustee and Amy Snyder for fiscal officer in Ripley Township.

Danny Ray Gingerich has filed for trustee and Kimberly Kandel for fiscal officer in Saltcreek Township.

Tom Miller, David Mishler and Joe Varga have filed for one trustee seat and Tara Herman for fiscal officer in Walnut Creek Township.

Michael Kick has filed for trustee and Vince Cicconetti for fiscal officer of Washington Township.

Boards of Education races

Four candidates have filed for two seats on the Board of Education of the East Holmes Local School District. The candidates are: Bryan Coblentz, Derek Kaufman, Kyle Miller and Bryce Troyer.

Judy Briggs and John Carroll have filed for two seats on the Board of Education of the Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District.

Five candidates have filed for three seats on the Board of Education of the Southeast Local School District. The candidates are: Sandra Cerniglia, Brian R. Miller, Richard Reynolds, Chedryl Steiner and David Troyer.

No candidate filed for the two vacant seats on the Triway Local School Board.

Patricia Sage and Eric Strouse have filed for two seats on the Board of Education of the West Holmes Local School District.

John Burkey was the lone candidate to file for the governing board of education service center for Tri-County District 9.
