Holocaust survivor to visit the Soo

SAULT STE. MARIE- Famous holocaust survivor and author Irene Miller will be speaking to the Soo during a visit on the days of Sept. 12 and 13.

Miller is an author of a book called "Into No Mans Land" detailing her life story and the many challenges she faced. Miller is one of the few remaining survivors who experienced the holocaust first-hand, and she has written openly about her life.

Miller was born in Warsaw, Poland, and lived there during the height of the holocaust, she and her family became victims of the holocaust.

In her book she writes about her life before and during the holocaust, she writes about her time in a Siberian work camp and her time living in Uzbekistan fighting starvation and malaria. Miller also talk about the years she spent in orphanages and the challenges she faced there.

Miller would go on to build a life for herself as a healthcare worker with jobs like hospital administrator, developer and administrator of the first federally qualified HMO in Michigan. She worked as director of the psychiatric division at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital and director of treatment centers for drug addicted and dual diagnosed women and their children at the Detroit Medical Center.

Miller has had many jobs throughout the years, including serving as an advisor of drug addiction in Washington DC and a public school teacher in Israel.

Miller would go on to write her book "Into No Mans Land" in her retirement and has since gone on to talk about her book and her life experiences in dozens of television programs, schools and other educational events. She also took part in several PBS programs teaching about the history of the holocaust.

Miller is presenting her book and life story to Sault Ste. Marie over the course of two days next week. Starting on Sept. 12 Miller is presenting to the public at LSSU art center at 7 p.m. the next day she is presenting to hundreds of local students as part of the EUPISD program.
