Holy Family University adding second campus in Newtown Township

Holy Family University will be adding another campus in Newtown Township, the Philadelphia-based school announced Friday.

The new campus, named Newtown West Campus, will be located at 33 University Drive, less than two miles away from the existing Newtown East Campus at 1 Campus Drive. The launch date of the new facility, which the university acquired, will be announced at a later date.

The new campus is being added to accommodate additional students at the existing Newtown Township campus and the university's northeast Philadelphia location off Interstate 95 near Academy Road. The Philadelphia location, the university said, is at capacity.

Many students take courses at both locations, and the expansion will better serve students by having additional courses and resources, a university news release states.

The new facility is a 47,573 square-foot facility located on a 6.5-acre site. It has 21 classrooms and 10 lab rooms, as well as a library/resource center, bookstore, cafeteria and outdoor quad, according to the university.

Plans proposed for the new campus include an expansion in the computer science and cybersecurity programs, both of which are launching this fall. A 'hacking lab' and new programming in the health sciences are included in those plans.

“Holy Family University is excited to expand our operations in Bucks County with the acquisition of the Newtown West campus,” Dr. Anne Prisco, President of Holy Family University, said in the release. “With this new facility, the university will be able to expand our academic programs, community resources, and service opportunities in Newtown while also providing additional support for our students at our home campus in Northeast Philadelphia. We are looking forward to working closely with the Bucks County community to fulfill the university’s mission of ensuring a welcoming and accessible learning community for all.”

The university is in discussions with local officials, business leaders and other stakeholders to make sure the facility accommodates the school's needs for its students and to fulfills the needs of county residents and nearby communities, according to the release.

Holy Family University has about 3100 students between its two campuses.
