Holy Spirit Catholic girls track wins state AHSAA championship behind three individual titles

Three Holy Spirit Catholic School athletes won individual titles at the AHSAA state track and field outdoor championships to lead the Saints to the girls 1A title on Saturday.

The Saints scored 74 points to edge second-place Decatur Heritage's 68.

Holy Spirit's Alyssa Mack placed first in the pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches, Olivia Watkins won the 400 meters in 1:03.93 and Chole Moore won the 800 meters at 2:34.87.

The Saints won the 4x800-meter relay with a 11:31.77 finish.

Northridge girls Samford signee Rashni Walker won four 6A events.

Her first-place finishes were 40 feet, 7.5 inches in the shot put, 141 feet, 3 inches in the javelin throw, 43.54 seconds in the 300-meter hurdle and the 100-meter hurdles in 14.47.

Demopolis Shonedra Richardson won four events to help her team to a fourth-pace finish. She won the 5A triple jump at 36 feet, 11 inches; the long jump at 19 feet, 2.5 inches; the 200 meters in 24.07; and the 100 meters in 12.16. Richardson broke a 31-year-old 5A long jump record.

Demopolis boys' Trenton Braxton won the 300-meter hurdles in 38.97 and the 110 hurdles in 15.10.

Bibb County boys' James Austin Tindell claimed the 4A long jump championship at 21 feet, 9.75 inches.

Winfield boys' Kade Estill claimed first place in the 3A triple jump at 42 feet, 11.5 inches, with teammate Andrew Wallace in second. Seth Kemble won the javelin throw at 164 feet, 9 inches. Winfield finished fourth.

Sulligent girls' Amiyah Johnson won the 2A 100 meters in 12.45.

The Linden girls won the 1A 4x400-meter relay in 4:35.32 time and placed fourth.
