Zara, played by Matilda Brown, is an ex-girlfriend of Mali Hudson's who turns up in Summer Bay to reconnect with him.

As they chat, it's clear that Zara has been heavily involved with Mali's family over the years.

Xander Delaney is curious when he spots Mali spending time with the Summer Bay newcomer.

As Xander heads over to find out what's going on, he's surprised as Zara confidently introduces herself as Mali's "promised wife".

Mali explains to Xander that this is a cultural tradition from his and Zara's community. However, he also clarifies that it's not one that his family takes seriously.

Xander struggles to understand Zara's place in Mali's life. He can't help wondering what his sister Rose, who's dating Mali, will make of her boyfriend spending time with an ex who still seems so close to him.

To make matters worse, Zara seems determined to lean on Mali for support as she goes through a difficult time. Mali is eager to be there for Zara, feeling a strong sense of commitment to a friend in need.

With Zara intending to stick around for a while, could she start to drive a wedge between Rose and Mali?
