Home and Away has been postponed this evening (September 9) following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Channel 5 confirmed a number of schedule changes following the news yesterday evening that the Queen had passed away aged 96, with the United Kingdom entering a period of national mourning.

As such, Home and Away has been taken off the schedule from its 1.45pm slot this afternoon, with Iceland with Alexander Armstrong airing instead from 1.20pm, and World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys on air from 2pm.

It follows a number of big schedule changes across UK broadcasters, with EastEnders now airing on BBC Two this evening at 7pm as BBC One dedicates the entire day to special programming about the Queen.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air tonight as planned after being replaced yesterday evening with extended news coverage, with a later air date for the two soaps yet to be confirmed.

ITV is instead airing a news special throughout today, with daytime shows such as This Morning, Loose Women, Dickinson's Real Deal, Tipping Point and The Chase also cancelled.

Buckingham Palace confirmed yesterday in a statement that the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral in the afternoon. Following the announcement, her son and new monarch King Charles III paid tribute to his mother.

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family," he said.

"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

"During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7plus.

Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
