Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has explained why there is a lack of social distancing on the Australian soap.

While UK soaps have featured characters standing far apart, wearing masks and sometimes using real-life partners for kissing scenes, Home and Away has been more lenient than that.

When questioned by a fan as to why that was on Twitter, the Irene Roberts actor said: "Ok. So there's no social distancing in SB because the writers and producers (rightly) believe that our viewers desire some escapism.

"There's no 'apparent' social distancing between the actors on set, however we were extremely strict with our sanitising, temperature monitoring, and the fact that we were all in a strict bubble. Hope this answers your concerns."

Back in July last year, the show said that, in spite of the social guidelines at the time in New South Wales, the show was showing physical contact between actors.

"When it comes to storylines, the team has been incredibly creative in making sure there's maximum physical distance as much as possible," a statement read. "On occasions when people do get closer to each other for the sake of a storyline, it's done with full consultation and agreement of all involved."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia). Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
