Standing on the steps of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met), one might think it a holy institution, an awe-inspiring building, befitting the world-renown artwork and artifacts housed within. While not everyone can visit the museum easily, the online Met Store sells unique, quality decor, jewelry, and gifts, accessible to all. Right now, The Met store’s annual Good-buy sale is chock full of “soon to be retired items” marked down so low, so we’re splurging (while supporting one of our favorite institutions).
For the home, American-made Mosser drinking-glass sets are a steal at just $20. Marked down from $88, they come in surreal colors like amber, amethyst, and black. Available styles include goblets, tumblers, and more – so buy a few for your home bar and breakfast table. Couches will get new life from the saturated tones in this hummingbird illustration, Persian-inspired, or Kashmir Floral throw pillows. These conversation starters are far more interesting and fun than generic department store ones.
I've never seen an evening bag like this black velvet hand-beaded clutch, inspired by a starry set design for a Mozart opera. Yet, it’s perfectly timeless and chic. This 18th-century-inspired Lover’s Eye locket necklace has a glass dome, so you can display a small memento within. There are unusual neck accessories on sale too—like this menswear Egyptian eye print tie, and a red Tudor rose scarf based on a 15th-century museum piece.
I’m always taking notes (and with back-to-school right around the corner), so I’ll be grabbing art-covered journals inspired by Mondrian and Homer, some to keep and some for gifts. They’re hardcover and sturdy, with lined pages to keep notes organized (unlike everything else in my life). Of course, there are plenty of art prints and coffee table books to choose from, like this 400+ page tome of the Met’s Roman art collection and a little paperback on the works of David Hockney.
