Home Depot Busts Toro Snowblower Thief, Police Say

This man is no longer welcome to patronize Home Depot, court records show.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - A man from Chicago has remained in the Will County Jail for the past week unable to post bond in connection with his arrest at the Bolingbrook Home Depot. Bolingbrook Police arrested 41-year-old Norman Chappelle at 8 p.m. last Friday, Dec. 7 following a retail theft at the business located at 105 North Weber Road.

According to Bolingbrook Police, Chappelle "purchased a Toro snow blower and loaded the snow blower into a pickup truck. Chappelle reentered the store and selected an identical Toro snow blower, walking out of the store without paying for the second snow blower."

Home Depot notified Bolingbrook Police and then the officers went out and found the defendant. He was in the parking lot "with the purchased snow blower and the stolen snow blower. Chappelle was taken into custody and charged with felony retail theft. Chappelle was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility," reports show.

Chappelle's bail was set at a stiff $250,000 and he remains incarcerated a week later.

In the event that the Bolingbrook crime defendant comes up with 10 percent to post bond, his days of visiting Home Depot in the immediate future are over, court records show.

"As a condition of bond, defendant shall have no contact with Home Deport," the judge instructed.
