Home Depot confirms ‘small number’ of layoffs due to ‘changes in business’

Atlanta-based retailer Home Depot confirmed that due to economic conditions, some staff were being let go.

In a statement provided to Channel 2 Action News, a company spokeswoman said the number of staff positions eliminated was “very small” and were “non-store roles.”

In their full statement, the Home Depot spokeswoman said the layoffs would be accompanied by exit packages and some transitional benefits.

The company did not provide an exact number of the impending layoffs.

“Due to changes in our business, we eliminated a very small number of non-store roles. We are focused on doing the right thing and supporting our associates with separation packages, transitional benefits and job placement support. We continue to be optimistic about the long-term opportunity in home improvement, and we’ll continue to invest in our customers, associates and the business,” a Home Depot spokeswoman said in a statement.
