My New Home: Fit for a Prince in Cordova

Finding a new home during a pandemic can be tough, and it can be tempting to throw in the towel. However, Mid-South couple Christian and Travis Moore were not going to let anything stand in their way. The driving force behind their decision was their 1-year-old son, Travis Moore Jr., nicknamed TJ.

“The pandemic caused a lot of fear in the way that we move and the way that we do everything,” Christian said. “However, the one thing that will remain the same is that our child is still growing. We have to prepare and provide him with the best that we have, and the pandemic wasn’t going to stop that.”

Christian is a school teacher in Memphis and Travis is a paramedic with the Shelby County Fire Department.

The couple had been looking to move for a while, but just never actually made that big leap. When they decided in the summer of 2021 that it was officially time to move, they knew exactly what they wanted.

“We wanted to be in an area that had a good school,” Travis said. “We wanted a low crime rate, safe neighborhood and to be around people who cut their grass.” He laughed. The couple, married 10 years, closed on their dream home in Cordova in August 2021.

Assisting in the search for the Moore’s new home were Stacy Hobson and Kiara Bridges with J Hunter Realty. Hobson has known Christian since she was a child and says she was thrilled to help the couple in their journey.

“We knew they wanted a family-friendly environment so their baby can play in the backyard or ride his bike down the street,” Hobson said. “They didn’t have that in their previous home. So we made sure to seek out homes that met that need.”

The $350,000 single-family built home has 2,850 square feet of living space. The residence, built in 2004, includes five bedrooms, four bathroom and a bonus room. The bonus room serves as office space for Christian to work on lesson plans and grading while Travis uses the space to produce work for his videography side business.

The home came equipped two fireplaces, a three-car garage and a patio. The couple also had a non-negotiable: No pool.

“We wanted to buy a home we both wanted,” Christian said. “Be able to pay it off, and if we wanted to go rent an RV in our 90s, we wanted to have the option for the home to be left to our son.”

The couple agrees that having someone get in front of them to explain the home buying process, along with the do’s and don'ts helped their experience. Hobson assisted in the actual selling of their old home and Bridges assisted the couple in finding the home they now live in. “Whatever questions we had, Stacy already had the answers to them,” said Travis.

The couple says their favorite rooms would be baby TJ’s room and the family room where his toys can also be found.

While the world continues to battle the pandemic, the Moore’s say they still do not regret moving when they did. “We do what we have to do,” Christian said. “We do what needs to be done, and we’re not going to put our feet into something that we would slip and drown in, but we know God so we knew it would be all good.”
