Home & Garden Show, Poppy Fest, Flora Fest bloom in spring in El Paso

In El Paso, people can count on certain events to help usher in spring and get people in the mood to do home improvement projects or spruce up the yard.

And as income tax refunds begin to arrive, it's even more of an incentive to add some new plants and shrubs to the front landscapes or replace the kitchen countertop with something fresh and new.

And we all know El Paso's usual good weather is just around the corner, so get ready to spend some time outside.

Here are the top three events to look forward to:

Home & Garden Show returns

Homeowners will find plenty of ideas for their kitchens, living spaces and the backyard at the 22nd Annual Home & Garden Show this weekend at the El Paso convention center. The show will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. And this year, it's free admission, thanks to Eco Living Home Improvement.

Poppies Fest will be monthlong

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Trans Mountain Road, announced that Poppies Fest 2023 will be Saturdays, March 4, 11, 18 and 25, and April 1.

The fest celebrates the wildflowers that pop up around the museum and in the desert if there is good rain during winter. The poppies typically bloom in late January and last through early April.

The fest, which has free admission, should provide activities and programs for the whole family.

Borderland residents can take in the beauty of nature during Poppy Fest, which will be held starting March 4 near the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Trans Mountain Road.

FloraFest returns early April

The FloraFest, which promotes planting native flowers, shrubs and trees in home landscapes, will be April 1. The event sells hundreds of plants and trees that thrive in El Paso's sunny weather and are drought tolerant.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1 at the Undergraduate Learning Center plaza at the University of Texas at El Paso. Bring credit cards, no cash.

The plant sale is the only fundraiser for the maintenance and operation of the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. Shoppers can visit with local master gardeners, horticulturists, and other plant experts for advice on how to care for their plants at home.
