A Kings Mountain manufacturing plant plans to expand its operations in Cleveland County and build a new location in Cumberland County, according to an announcement from Gov. Roy Cooper on Tuesday.

Headquartered in Virginia, NVR Inc. sells and constructs homes under the brands of Ryan Homes, NVHomes and Heartland Homes in 15 states. The company will create a total of 261 jobs with 58 of those coming to Cleveland County.

“We are excited to welcome these additional jobs and increased investment to Cleveland County,” said Sen. Ted Alexander, R-Cleveland.

That investment as a whole equals $33.9 million with the construction of a new facility in Fayetteville and $5.2 million of that dedicated to Cleveland County.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce led the state’s efforts to support the company’s expansion in North Carolina. Salaries will vary, but the average annual salary for the positions is $46,510, which is above average salaries in Cleveland and Cumberland counties.

The project could create a potential annual payroll impact of more than $12.8 million per year, according to a release from the governor’s office.

“When an existing industry chooses to expand their operations in our community, I consider it to be one of the highest compliments that our community can receive. We are so grateful to the company that they have chosen us once again,” said Kevin Gordon, chairman of the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners.

NVR has had a presence in Cleveland County since 2002. They currently employ 230 people and construct an average of 60 homes per week. In addition to homebuilding products, the company also operates a mortgage division.

The expansion will be facilitated, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. Over the course of the 12-year term of the grant, the project is estimated to grow the state’s economy by more than $516 million.

“When companies already in North Carolina choose to expand here, it’s a great vote of confidence,” said Cooper. “Our ability to support NVR’s growth demonstrates the reliability of our workforce, access to supply chains, and quality of life as attractive tools to meet the increasing demands of the homebuilding industry.”
