This home for sale had a past life as a bank — it has a vault to prove it. Take a look

A house that was once a bank has landed on the real estate market in Charlotte, Iowa, for $119,900 — and it comes with a few perks from its former life.

That includes a massive safe.

“What used to be the Charlotte Savings Bank is now a 2 bedroom, one bathroom, one VAULT, single-family home — zoned residential,” the listing on Zillow.com says.

“This property absolutely oozes charm! Much of the original bank has been preserved - items like solid marble walls, marble baseboard trim, lion statues flanking the front steps, cashiers window, globular chandeliers, solid hardwood in the primary bedroom, intricate mosaic tile floor, and YES even the bank vault. This unique property is a perfect blend of modern amenities and eclectic charm.”

Amenities include:

  • Large kitchen

  • Storage space

  • Bar seating

  • Open concept living area

  • Bathroom/laundry combo

The 2,348-square-foot residence was featured on Friday Night Zillow, a Twitter segment created by Bloomberg reporter Steven Dennis, and people had some words to share — especially about the cool-looking vault.

“One of my favorite #CheapZillow finds is back on the market,” Dennis tweeted. “$119K gets you an Iowa Bank that’s been converted to a beautiful home. Still has the VAULT! Sold last year for $85K.”

I do not understand how this can be so cheap,” one person said.

For all the doomsday preppers, you have your own safe room - literally a safe room,” another joked.

The ultimate safe room!” someone tweeted.

Built in storm shelter!” one person said.
