Home working drives record profit at Lenovo

STORY: Working from home has proved a boon for gadget makers.

On Wednesday (February 23) Lenovo said its third-quarter profits jumped 62%.

That took them to a record high of $640 million.

The world’s largest maker of personal computers credited the move to hybrid working.

It said demand for PCs rose at one of the fastest rates since the late ‘90s.

Customers were also shifting to more high-end models as they geared up for home use.

The company expects that trend to continue, as hybrid working becomes the norm.

It reckons that will keep demand robust through to 2025 at least.

The global shortage of chips has been an issue for the firm.

But it says there are signs that the problem is easing off.

In the fourth quarter Lenovo captured almost a quarter of the global PC market, according to consultancy Gartner.

That put it ahead of rivals HP and Dell.
