Homebuilding rebounded a little in Henderson during August

HENDERSON, Ky. − After no building permits were sought in July for new single-family residences in Henderson or Henderson County, homebuilding saw a minor rebound in August.

Permits were sought last month for six new houses, including four in the city and two in the county. That tied for the second-busiest month for housing starts this year, though homebuilding remains sluggish by historic standards. Still, last month’s activity far exceeded that of August 2022, when no permits for new houses were sought.

So far this year, permits have been awarded for 31 new houses, up from 22 during the same period last year.

No major new commercial construction projects were undertaken in August. Perhaps the most visible commercial project was the demolition of the former office building, long occupied by Ohio Valley Marine, at 601 Second St., property which is now owned by Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.

The value of all construction in the city and county last month totaled $3.1 million, compared with $2.3 million in August 2022.

Through the first eight months of this year, the value of all construction has totaled $32.7 million, compared with $165.8 million during the same period last year. The 2022 total was hugely inflated by a $125 million permit issued for construction of the Pratt Paper complex on the Kentucky 425/South Bypass.

Here are the individual permits issued last month:
