Homeless man arrested on charge of stabbing hiker who befriended him in Crestview

A homeless man has been arrested after he was accused of stabbing a hiker who had befriended him.

The victim and his wife had befriended the homeless man when they arrived in Crestview and set up camp on the Florida Natural Scenic Trail about a mile east of Highway 85 and south of the double bridges.

For unknown reasons, 37-year-old Jonathan Davis of Havana allegedly stabbed the 45-year-old Ohio man in the abdomen. A search of Davis turned up a bloody knife and blood on his clothing.

The victim's wife went to a location where she could get reception and call 911.

A Crestview Police Department officer spotted Davis walking on State Road 85 and took him into custody on outstanding warrants for burglary and other charges out of Leon County.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department charged Davis with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
