Homeless man dies after being struck on Range Line Road

Nov. 27—A homeless man died of injuries sustained Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle on Range Line Road in Joplin.

Kevin C. Ockuly, 65, was struck by a northbound pickup truck about 2:10 p.m. Saturday near 29th Street and Range Line, according to Joplin police. Ockuly was taken to a local hospital, where he died later the same day.

Police said in a news release Monday that an investigation of the fatality by the city's major crash team has turned up several witnesses who saw Ockuly yelling at passing vehicles along the east side of the road before stepping out in front of the pickup truck. The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.

—An Arkansas woman died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash at 12:30 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 90 at Washburn in Barry County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Kimberly A. Rogers, 36, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where she was pronounced dead at 2 p.m.

Rogers was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle driven by Phillip A. Fonsworth McCorbey, 39, of Pea Ridge, that collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by Autumn R. Horton, 29, of Duenweg, when Fonsworth McCorbey attempted to pass Horton just as she was making a left turn, the patrol said.

Fonsworth McCorbey was taken to Mercy Hospital Springfield with moderate injuries, the patrol said.
