Homeowner hit by tornado receives viewer donation

GARFIELD, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Two residents of a home in Garfield hit by an EF-1 tornado early Tuesday are now applying a new roof to their home, after a donation by a KNWA viewer.

The viewer, Shirley Barber, said she felt called to support the residents after seeing their story shared earlier this week. She paid for new roofing for both the resident’s home and nearby garage, which cost around $2,300.

By Friday, the roof was already being installed, with the help of friends and neighbors who had been assisting the residents since the tornado first struck.

“It shows there’s still good people in this world,” Duncan Art said. “Still good people and…everyone’s willing to help. There’s people taking time out of their day, taking time out of their work to come help me. And it’s…amazing seeing all these people come together.”
