Homeowners can apply for mortgage relief program

Oct. 3—W I L L I M A N T I C / DANIELSON — Homeowners in Tolland and Windham Counties who are experiencing hardship caused by the pandemic can apply for mortgage relief through a new federal program, "My Home CT."

Access Community Action Agency is helping residents in the two counties apply for the program.

$123 million was awarded to the Homeowner Assistance Fund.

The Connecticut program, " MyHomeCT," is administered by the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority.

Homeowners can apply for up to $50,000 in grant expenses.

Expenses that are covered include: payment assistance for mortgage delinquencies and future payments; non- escrowed real estate taxes; non- escrowed homeowners' insurance and flood insurance; water and sewer liens; ground lease or lot payments; fees advanced by the loan servicer/ lender on behalf of an applicant with a reverse mortgage and condominium and/ or homeowners' association fees or special assessments.

An applicant must live in Connecticut and occupy the property as their primary residence. To be eligible, applicants must also have experienced a COVID-19related financial hardship after Jan. 21, 2020 or a financial hardship before that date that was exacerbated by the pandemic.

The property must be an owner- occupied, one to four- unit house, condominium, townhouse or manufactured home.
