SOUTH BEND — The nonprofit Rebuilding Together St. Joseph County is seeking homeowners to apply for free home repairs in 2024 in a neighborhood on the city’s southeast side.

Homeowners qualify if they are elderly, veterans and/or have disabilities who fall within federal household income limits and who live within the targeted neighborhood’s boundaries.

The neighborhood is between South Michigan Street to the west, Broadway Street and Lincoln Way East to the north, Ironwood Drive (if north of Ewing) and Miami Street (if south of Ewing Ave) to the east and Ewing Avenue and Donmoyer Avenue to the south.

The repairs will be done on two Saturdays in April by professionals in the building trades and by general volunteers. Repairs could vary depending on the home but could include replacing roofs, water heaters, furnaces, plumbing and electrical work, along with smaller, handyman repairs. Because funding is limited, not all applicants can be helped. Rental homes don’t qualify.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 1. Applications are available at RebuildingTogetherSJC.org. For questions, email info@rebuildingtogethersjc.org or call 574-289-1066.
