Homicide, aggravated assault charges filed after fatal crash

CASS TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A man was arrested after a crash that killed a Schuylkill County woman and injured two children.

Around 7:30 p.m. this past Friday, state police say they were called to a head-on crash on State Route 901 in Cass Township.

Pedestrian struck and killed in Schuylkill County

Investigators said the head-on collision killed 65-year-old Elizabeth Ryan from Pottsville and injured two children ages eight and five.

Investigation into what caused the crash led troopers to file homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle charges against 46-year-old Rodney Rivers on Sunday. Police say Rivers’ last known address was Youngstown, Ohio.

Rivers was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison on a $500,000 straight cash bail.
